Titus has always been a favorite around here so when he makes new music it's always a pleasant surprise. By the first chorus, I was sold. Hook, line and sinker. He had me and I was in it to the end and then some. These two songs meld well together like a mighty Zord and create something bigger than themselves. I'm happy that he's still creating music and giving the people something fantastic. Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments.

Titus Jones - Clarity Kids
This epitomizes how well Titus knows his craft. It's been a minute since we heard new music from him but this shows that he hasn't been away for any time at all. He knows how to disassemble things and how to put them back together. He has laser like precision in his ability to make the parts and make them into something so much larger than when they started. I had not heard the Echosmith track prior to the mash up but it's fantastic. MGMT and Zedd are two of those artists that are so exposed that this is a refreshing take on tracks that I felt were nearing the end of their shelf life. Like most of his tracks, it's huge and got a tremendous sound to it that would only sound better in a club with 80,000 watts pushing it.

Titus Jones - Closer to Kissing Fun Girls
I just can't help it. I am a Titus Jones fan. Unapologetic and unabashed. This man can do things with mash ups that few people can. I mean, Tegan & Sara, Katy Perry, fun. Who would have ever thought to put those artists together. And like everything else he mashes up - it's flawless. I can't gush enough about the talent it takes to do this so I'll let the track do it for me. What do you think?

Titus Jones - After Shock
It's 12:30 and I've been fully immersed into the world of Titus Jones again. It's so easy to forget how awesome it is to be right in the middle of his art until you're there again and you don't ever want to leave. After Shock is his second release of mash ups and I use that term loosely because that's just the genre. What he does is more than just cram a handful of songs together. His music starts with a concept and he carefully selects tracks that tell his story and then he weaves them together with magic and bubble gum and string and at the end when it's all said and done, there is something new. Something that is so much greater than the sum of it's parts.
Let's look at the incredible "Fuckin' Power Rangers". Who would have ever thought you could take the Power Rangers theme and use it as a backdrop for an empowered stand up and take charge song that features Nicki Minaj, Eminem, Ludacris & Destiny’s Child? He just works magic and everything falls into place like it was supposed to be there all the time. This is just one tiny example of how he does amazing things with beats and lyrics. You never ever hear a seam where he stitched the tracks together. It sounds like he has masters that he pulls vocals and tracks off of to work with. It is truly amazing.
I love his selection of artists, from Ke$ha to Alex Clare to Adele to who the hell could ever think about taking Sweet Child O' Mine, Sugar, We're Going Down, Laffy Taffy and mix it with Sex & Candy? I think he has become one of my favorite independent artists and I support everything he does. This album is every bit as good and in most every case, better than Culture Shock. He's taken his experiences and practiced with the the tools he has to become an amazing dj/producer. Even though the album is a free download from his website, you should follow him on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Soundcloud and give him lots and lots of love. He deserves it because he has taken the time to share his art and his love with us.

Titus Jones - Culture Shock
I don't do full album reviews because most of the time, it can come across like I'm pandering or attempting to kiss the artists ass. What I can say for certainty about Titus Jones and this album is that I think he can do for pop music mashups what Girl Talk has done for hip hop mashups. I've talked about them before and I have given my opinion about mashups but if you missed it, here it is:
A good mashup is an art form. Anyone can take 2 songs and smash them together. There are databases of BPMs and software that will change tempos and remove vocals and strip beats out but when you are dealing with an artist, a true artist, that can conceptualize how to take 2 or more songs and layer them together so that they flow and fit flawlessly, then you have elevated the project to art. And the world is desperately in need of more art.

New Albums to Review
I've just downloaded Culture Shock by Titus Jones and Arkeology by The Ark. I will be reviewing these shortly as well as all three albums by The Ex-boyfriends and The Rest is History by Same Difference.

Titus Jones - Culture Shock
On 2/28/2011, Titus will be releasing an album of mashups on his site. I can't wait to hear it because if this first track is any indication, he's created something pretty damn cool. So here is the preview: Hold Your Sexy Arms Against Me
Hold Your Sexy Arms Against Me - Britney + Cutting Crew + P!nk + David Guetta & Akon + Taylor Swift by titusjones
.:: EDIT ::.
Here is the Panos TV Video Remix of this track. It's super Brill if I do say so myself.

Titus Jones + Panos TV = Mashup Perfection
If you've followed this blog at all, you know I love Mash ups but I love them more when they are amazing. I ran across a YouTube link to this video and thought I'd check it out. When I did, I spent the next 2 hours on YouTube watching the videos over and over again and wanted more. Creating a mash up is so much more than taking two songs and sticking them together. You have to know what is gonna work well and you have to have the artistry it takes to pull it off and make it believable otherwise it's just gonna be a big ole mess (Singing in the Rain/Umbrella from Glee). This artist knows what he's doing and does it well.
