Jeb Havens - Pushy Little Compass Heart

Jeb has always impressed me with how keyed into his own emotions he is and how unafraid he is to share his ups and downs with us. This is no different. He has taken more than the last year of his life and given it to traveling the world with his partner and I think that is absolutely amazing. He's stepped away from most everything in order to build a solid foundation for his life with the man that, I'm sure, he's going to spend the rest of his life with.

This video was filmed over five days in New Zealand and it's a gorgeous ode to what he's been doing this past year. The song is gorgeous and it makes you want to just hold on to the people in your life that matter. It's one of the most romantic videos I've seen in a long time and I'm damn glad that they decided to share it with us. I'm a super huge fan of Jeb and his music. I think he's got one of the most charismatic voices in the industry today. The chorus swells and builds into this hopeful ideal of what we all want in our lives. It's the idea of finding your "true north" and making a beeline to them. It's following your heart and it's doing what you need to make sure you live the happiest you can. It's holding on to that scrap of happiness and squeezing out of it all we can because we aren't promised anything.

I applaud him for his hard work and effort to bring this vision to reality.  Make sure you pick up his new album, "Home Base" where ever you choose to purchase your digital music.

Matt Zarley - Fucking Perfect (with Jeb Havens)

I'm really proud of this cover.  I'm proud of both of these men singing the hell out of this song.  I am proud to know that they took this seriously and just made a damn fine recording while putting their all into it.  This song is important and to have 2 out gay artists doing one of the finest recordings to date means a tremendous amount and will make a huge difference to the young men and women that find themselves on the other end of the track.  P!nk's version will always and forever be the go-to version of this song and it's one of my favorite songs hands down but the impact this cover will have to it's not only a niche market of young gays and lesbians but to anyone that comes across it on the internet will hands down be staggering.

Matt and Jeb's vocals flow seamlessly together and they gorgeously compliment each other.  The earthiness to Jeb's voice is totally grounded in Matt's soulful tenor and they play to each other's strengths - never over powering each other and totally giving each other the space they need to stretch their legs as it were.  But then they come back and harmonize beautifully with each other like it's totally old hat.  They both bring enough attitude and atmosphere to the track that enables the song to not come off as just a patronizing rant but more like the advice of an old friend when you need it the most.

These guys are fantastic and they make me adore them a little more each time they step out of the gate.

Matt Zarley - Hopeful Romantic

I've been a Matt Zarley fan for going on 4 years now.  He, unknowingly, helped me through the death of my boyfriend of 11 years in 2010 and since then he has been a mainstay in my record collection.  That being said, I implore you to find it in yourself to either contribute to this Kickstarter or share this with people that will because Matt has the ability to take things that you don't even know you're feeling at the time and put them to music.  His latest album, Hopeful Romantic will only get made if we help it get made.  When you think about it, if you're a fan of his music - you were going to buy the album regardless so why does this make it any different, only now; you get to say you had a hand in the creation of the finished product.  More than anything, he is a damn nice guy and he represents us, music fans, LGBT people, and everyone in between like not many other artists have.  I haven't gotten to know Matt as well as some of the other artists that I've reviewed over the years but trust me when I say the man is a genuinely decent human being with one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen.  So look at his campaign and watch his video and pledge something.  It's going to be worth it when the album comes out because I can already tell it's going to be beautiful and it will help me on the next part of my journey with a healed heart, and dreams in my eyes; I will be a Hopeful Romantic.

Rowsy Bosch feat. Jeb Havens - Take Me Back

I have a feeling spot that's about the size of Texas. Because it's so big, it takes something super powerful to hit me and make me feel the feels. This video and song do just that. I've already talked about Jeb's ability to serve you Vulnerable Realness and he does that and so much more in this song.  I don't understand why he isn't signed to a major label because his voice is beautiful and has this ability to carry so much emotion.  You don't even have to watch the video to know exactly what he's feeling.  There aren't many artists that have an authentic ability to convey what he can in less than 5 minutes.

There's no flashy production or big story to be told with the video, just Jeb emoting.  That's all there should be.  The combination of Jeb's vocals and Oliver Voigt's production are flawless and they can absolutely deliver the goods.  Their EP, Corrilatos is available wherever you get your digital products.

Britney Spears - Toxic (Jeb Havens Cover)

When I talked about BLBL's new track on his Soundcloud, I talked about how a change in an arrangement can change the overall perception of a song.  What Jeb has done with this cover is take something that was super bubblegum and turn it into this love lost, forlorn track filled with sorrow over not being able to be with the person that you know is the worst possible solution ever.  You know the one.  You haven't talked to him in forever, you get a text out of the blue and the next thing you know, you're being called by the border patrol in Northern Mexico letting you know you're missing car is being used as a Black Tar Heroin transportation vehicle.  Anyway....Jeb does an amazing job injecting amazing amounts of emotion into this song and it is great to hear one of my favorite tracks stripped down and built back up into something new.

If you don't know who Jeb is, then you are missing out.  He is this really cool Singer/Songwriter from San Francisco that does amazing work.  Originally from Connecticut, he has a bazillion videos on his YouTube and I think it's incredible how varied his tracks and recordings are.   Again, he is this super awesome indie artist that you should be buying his album and not selling it.
