Perennial P-Town favorite, Doug Repetti has released a new video and song. I've been a fan of his for years now. I think he's got one of the smoothest voices in the business and I think the music he makes is amazing. I would gladly buy a full length album from him because he commands that much respect in his music. He's smart, he's got an ear for what is needed at that moment in time and he's just a damn talented artist. I really dig the song. It's full of hope and a sense of what we all want in this world. It's about love and how we are all searching for that person or persons to spend our lives with and see all the wonders of this world. It's got a very "Age of Aquarius" vibe to it and I think that's what we need more of. We need more love and acceptance in this world. The visuals in this song are amazing, pairing famous couples through out recent pop culture history with the lyrics of the song. It's bright and vibrant is just fun. Here's to many many more releases from him in the near future!

Doug Repetti - Make the Most
There's a point when music stops being simply music and becomes something more. Something inspiring, thought provoking, something that makes you stop what you're doing and listen. It's magic when it comes together and doesn't seem like the artist tried. When it's effortless and easy is when you know that something great has been created. If it's laborious and overwrought then you have to wonder who the artist was trying to prove something to. Doug Repetti is an artist that easily walks the line between musician and artist and he does it with such aplomb that you are simply taken aback by what he's created. I've watched this video now over and over and each time I watch it, I get a sense of the headspace that he travels in.
The message is simple and elegant. We are only here for a brief amount of time and in that time, it is our responsibility to make the most with what we're given. It's our free will and our own individual motivations that drive us to do what we can with what we are given. I think it sometimes takes someone reminding us of this when we actually look at our lives and say, you know...the small things that I've been sweating so hard...aren't that important after all. Now, I'm not saying that this video has made me reevaluate my life or make broad sweeping statements about how I'm going to change to be better, but it did make me say...hmmm. Maybe I am stressing out about the wrong things.
Doug Repetti may not have an international following but he is someone that deserves a listen. It's guys like him that don't take themselves too seriously and create art for the sake of creating art that make this a better place.

Doug Repetti - The Fools We Suffer
I think what I love the most about this song is muti-focal. I love the theatricality behind it. It's got a very musical theater vibe to it and whether or not that's what Doug was going for, he succeeded. It's not big, it's not brash... it's a simple honest song that straight forwardly tells you exactly where things stand. It has a very Tim Rice/Elton John flavor to it and I think that gives it power. I love the message because more often than not, we do have Fools to suffer and sometimes it's not easy.
The video is a bit experimental and I can see how sometimes you just end up fading into everything that is going on around you because you have no other choice and it's the best thing to do. That's what I got out of the video. As Doug progresses through the song, he starts to disappear more and more. I think we do that more often than we think about it. You have a situation you don't want to deal with, you hide from it. You have a phone call you don't want to answer, you screen. It's a natural self defense mechanism that we all learn and we end up using more often than we think about. Or maybe Doug was just playing with a new version of Premiere and wanted to test out his Chroma Key.
Regardless, listen to the track and let me know what you think and if you dig it, thumbs up the video and subscribe because he does amazing covers and stuff and I dig him. Plus he's an independent artist and you know I love to support some indie folk. Oh and he's a YouTube artist. You know that I love YouTube artists because they don't need or want huge record labels pursuing them (sometimes anyway.)
