Love Songs (with a Twist)

Sometimes love isn't pretty. It's not neat and it's not text book. Sometimes, it's downright dirty and a bit creepy. That being said, here are my Top 5 Love Songs (with a Twist).

5.  Sarah Mclachlan - Possession
What could be more dangerous than stalking?  This song was actually based off letters Sarah received from a deranged stalker who sued her for intellectual copyright infringement and then committed suicide.

4.  The Pet Shop Boys - You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk
So many relationships are built on this type of jilted logic.  It's just so easy to get wrapped up in this type of thing.

3.  Nick Cave and  Kylie Minogue - Where The Wild Roses Grow
Two of the most incredible voices/performers ever and they are together.  Love is deadly in this not so typical love song.

2.  The Smiths - Girlfriend In A Coma
I don't feel there's a need to justify the magnificence that is Morrissey.

1.  Scissor Sisters - She's My Man
I dare you to find another song that represents a codependent/crazy in love/totally not good for you love song.

"Getting Over You" Songs

It sucks to be dumped or in come cases to dump someone.  I had no desire to pick 5 songs that involved any tears in a beer or pining endlessly.  Sometimes you just have to scream, yell, run up their credit card bill or just fuck them off.  Here are my Top 5 Getting Over You Songs.

5.  Kaiser Chiefs - Every Day I Love You Less and Less

4.  Blu Cantrell - Hit Em Up Style

3. Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own

2.  Kelly Clarkson - Since You Been Gone

1.  Kelis - Caught Out There

Gay Pride Anthems

It's June, therefore it must be Gay Pride Month.  There are so many songs that have meaning to the members of the gay and lesbian community.  Here are my Top 5 Gay Pride anthems.

5. Idina Menzel - Defying Gravity
No matter what anyone tells you, never let them hold you down. Be yourself and everyone else be damned.

4. Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out
True it's cliche but an anthem is an anthem.

3.  Donna Summer/Barbara Streisand - No More Tears (Enough is Enough)
One of the best duets of all time and I'm not even a Barbara Streisand fan.

2.  Cyndi Lauper - True Colors
I didn't like this song as a kid but as an adult, I have found an appreciation for this song.  It means a tremendous amount to me now.

1.  Heather Small - Proud
Not only is this my favorite Pride song, but it's one of my favorite songs of all time.  I have been a fan of M-People and Heather Small for quite some time.  You cannot help but to feel a swelling of pride when you hear this song.

Top 5 Songs...

Girl Power Anthems
Here are my top 5 songs that embody some aspect of Girl Power. Some are straightforward others not so much.

5. Salt N Peppa - I Am The Body Beautiful
Sometimes you just have to stop and realize that your beauty is your power and it comes not from external validation but from yourself.  Dig deep, sister because there is a queen in there somewhere.

4. Eurythmics & Aretha Franklin - Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves
Two of the most powerful women in all of musicdom came together for this anthem.  You don't need anyone to do it for you.  Get out there and prove that you can do it on your own and you do not need a man to succeed.

3. Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman
It doesn't matter who you are or what you do, there is part of you in each and every woman on this planet and they are part of you.  Own it!

2. Britney Spears - Stronger
You may have walked out on me but that's fine.  I can do it on my own because it only takes me to make it. I am Stonger than yesterday.  One day at a time.

1. M.I.A - Bad Girls
Live Fast, Die Young... Bad Girls do it well.  If you're living with regrets you aren't living.  It's your life and do with it as you need to.

Honorable Mention

Kreayshawn - Gucci Gucci
Basic bitches wear that shit so I don't even bother.  I don't need name brand or bandwagons to feel strong.

Songs too unfortunately obvious for this list

Cyndi Lauper - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Spice Girls - Wannabe
