Colton Ford - Let Me Live Again (Official Video)

My last post about Colton was well over a year ago and it was in fact, the debut of the audio for this track.  And now, he's back and has released the video for the song.  A video full of hypersexualized imagery that has come to be a standard in his videos.  The women are hot, the men are hotter but Colton outshines them all.  His ability to smolder is unparalleled and when you add his vocal abilities, this man can do no wrong.   It's a simple black and white treatment directed by Marco Ovando and doesn't require any set up.  Just push play and let the video do it's thing.

In my opinion, this video falls onto a very sharp double standard.  If you take Madonna and put her on stage with Britney and Christina it's totally ok for them to make out.  If you take Katy Perry and have her singing about a brief same gender tryst, it's perfectly fine.  But in today's climate, even with all the advances we as a community are making, this video is a hard sell for the Midwestern pop music consumer.  While the images are not vulgar or overly risque, the bottom line is that in a male driven society - it is far easier for images of female sexuality to be accepted than it is for two men.  I don't agree with this stand and I think it's bullshit but in the Red States, it's a fact of life.  I can't wait for the day to be able to turn on a music video channel and have this song or any song that pushes the boundaries of sexuality play loud and proud beside today's pop stars.  And when that day comes, I will proudly stand in support of it as I am now.

Back in 2011 when I initially wrote about this song, I said:
"How many times have you had a moment where you wish someone could see themselves the way you do. That's the vibe I get from the lyrics. Things were going ok, but now that I've met you...I have something to live for."
And I still feel that way about this song.  It's a great track and without warning you are swept up into the infectious rhythm.  Colton does work on this track and I after watching the video for the fifth time, I am living for it.  It amazes me that he has never once shied away from his past as an adult entertainer and in fact, he has used it to propel his recording career further.  Playing toward an existing fan base is never a dumb idea and he does an amazing job at just being comfortable in his own skin on screen.  A long time ago, I wrote about how I thought he was sullying himself by being so bare in his videos but it's an important part of his image.  I appreciate him as a vocalist first and foremost but I understand the business decision to shoot the videos the way they are done.  It's sexy, it's super masculine and it does a damn fine job of teetering on that line where it's almost too much but never tips over.

I want him to record more music because I love having him in my library and my life.  Watch the video, listen to the lyrics and buy the music.  He's an artist that deserves to be supported and I can't wait for the next chapter in his recording career.

Colton Ford - Let Me Live Again

Yes, Colton Ford is smoking hot. Yes, he was a former porn star. Good...we've gotten that out of the way. Moreover, Colton Ford is a hell of a vocalist. I've been a fan of him ever since his single Everything. I own physical copies of both of this CDs and they stay in heavy rotation in my library. His covers of "Ashes to Ashes" and "With Every Heartbeat" are in my top 50 songs of all time. I love to hear his voice and I think he can do amazing things.

However, I want to hear his voice. I understand that some digital clean up may be needed every now and then but I want to hear him, One of my most favorite videos has done was for his cover of Alicia Key's "No One" because it is stripped down and pure. I get that in the music industry you have to make yourself marketable and the tracks that have been pumped up with super energy and bigger than life dance beats are going to give him a place on the circuit scene but I want more for him. I want him to be more than a dance artist. I want him to be an artist that can flow easily from the shores of Ibiza to a quiet evening at home. I know that he has the vocal talent to pull it off, I just wish his production team felt he same way.

"Let Me Live Again" is a super danceable track that actually has a point of view and some clear cut emotion behind the throbbing base.  It's intentions are there and it makes you want to get up and dance but it's actually a super sweet song that you want it to be sung to you.  It reminds me a bit of "Music Again" by Adam Lambert in that it is a song of empowerment that can only be realized through someone else's eyes.  How many times have you had a moment where you wish someone could see themselves the way you do.  That's the vibe I get from the lyrics.  Things were going ok, but now that I've met you...I have something to live for.  I love the energy of the song and I hope that it gets a ton of airplay and club play and maybe people will be able to judge Colton as an artist not as a commodity.  Again, super freaking sexy....but he's so much more and I am glad to see the inner parts of him that he lets us see through his music.

Colton Ford - Innocent

Innocent (Taylor Swift Cover)

Push aside the distinguished salt and pepper hair. Nevermind the perfect pec and body chiseled out of marble. What is deceptively amazing about our friend Mr. Ford is that beneath all of the polished gorgeousness is a set of vocal cords that can do amazing things. He has released 2 albums, Tug of War and Under the Covers and both cater heavily to the circuit crowd. There's nothing wrong with that but when you actually have the talent to pull off vocals that don't need all the retooling and editing, I don't see why you do it. Now before we get too deep, realize that Colton is a man with a past. A past he'll talk about openly, but a past none the less. You see our friend was an adult film star and made well over 20 films before hanging up his jock strap and lube to follow his passion and become a recording artist. Now this is tricky because his past is going to follow him no matter where he goes so instead of ditching his stage name for a new one, he embraces it and pushes forward. I am a fan of Colton. Hands down. I dig his music, his image and everything that goes with it. What I like the most about him is his unprocessed vocals like you find all over the majority of the 2 studio albums. The single above is on neither album and I dig the hell out of it. It showcases his vocals and proves that he is more than just a pretty, well defined and chiseled face. It is a cover of a Taylor Swift song (I've never heard it so it's new to me) and I am damn pleased with it.

Most people find him to be hit or miss because of how over processed some of his tracks are but give these 2 a listen. Ashes to Ashes is my favorite off of the Under the Covers album and I think he is more than someone to create the soundtrack for the White Party.
